Calimesa, CA – Fifth District County of Riverside Supervisor Gutierrez broke ground for the new Calimesa Library, marking the start of a project that involves replacing the outdated Calimesa modular library with a new 5,500 square-foot state-of-the-art library building.
With Supervisor Gutierrez approving an investment of $9,180,000, the library will see significant improvements. The Calimesa library will transition from a 2,160 square-foot modular facility to a 5,500 square-foot standard building construction, increasing the library's longevity while doubling its size. The building will feature a ranch-style design. Construction is expected to be completed by Summer 2025.
Aside from improvements to the building, the library will also include new furniture, shelves, computers, and books, enhancing library services and resources for residents. Additionally, the facility will feature dedicated learning spaces for children, teens, and adults and two new study rooms. An opportunity room will offer residents a wide range of activities, from arts and crafts to skill development workshops.
Director of the County of Riverside's Office of Economic Development, Suzanne Holland, commented, “The technological upgrades, dedicated spaces for children, teens, and adults, and the expanded footprint is a testament to Riverside County Library System’s dedication to lifelong learning.”
"As a former educator, it brings me immense joy to be a part of a project that invests in the future of our community. Projects like these are crucial in providing our community with the opportunities necessary to realize their potential," said Supervisor Gutierrez.
County Librarian Barbara Howison remarked, "This building project shows the continuing partnership between the City of Calimesa and the County of Riverside by providing library service to the residents of Calimesa."
