County Stakeholders Gather for 2022 State of the County

December 20, 2022

NEWS RELEASE

After a three year hiatus, the 2022 County of Riverside State of the County returned this year with nearly 500 residents, stakeholders, and business operators in attendance. The sold-out event was held at the Morongo Casino Resort & Spa in Cabazon on Dec. 8.

At the event, county leaders discussed the county’s growth and opportunities as Riverside County is the fastest growing county in Southern California. Speakers at the event included Board of Supervisors Chairman Jeff Hewitt, Supervisor Karen Spiegel, and Supervisor V. Manuel Perez. In addition, County Executive Officer Jeff Van Wagenen was the master of ceremonies.

“The recent 2020 Census data confirms what we’ve known for years,” said Van Wagenen. “We believe our rapid growth is proof that we’re doing something right as more people choose to live and work here. We are growing by 30,000 people every year – that’s like adding a city the size of Desert Hot Springs, Norco or Wildomar every year. We are optimistic that our population growth will also pave the way for new and increased funding that provide for critically important services to our residents. We thank all of our public, private and non-profit partners for their support to better serve our residents.”

Following a long hiatus of large in-person county events, many speeches focused on the resiliency of the county and our communities, to the unprecedented challenges created by the pandemic. The event provided an opportunity for residents and stakeholders to hear from county leaders about important projects, service initiatives and the outlook for businesses.
