Free Composting Education offered by Waste Resources in Desert Area

February 18, 2025

The Riverside County Department of Waste Resources has been conducting Backyard Composting classes and workshops for an impressive three decades! In addition to foundational home composting classes offered monthly, the Department also offers a FREE extended course in locations throughout the county. The Master Composter Training is an advanced program that delves into home composting techniques, examines various composting methods, enhances understanding of the composting process, and explores the waste stream specific to Riverside County.

For those who thrive in hands-on learning environments, the in-person classes will take place on Saturdays from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM in La Quinta (78-450 Avenida La Fonda, La Quinta, CA 92253), commencing on March 8. Registration is currently open and mandatory. There are only 25 seats available, so timely registration is encouraged. All books and study materials will be provided, and participants will benefit from the guidance of knowledgeable Master Composter instructors. Attendees will also engage in building group compost piles and creating personal vermicompost bins. To obtain the certificate, it is essential that participants attend all four consecutive Saturday sessions (March 8, 15, 22, 29).

If you are unable to attend in person, there is also a virtual online course available starting on the second day of April, July, or October. This format grants participants up to three months to complete the course at their convenience, utilizing online study materials and quizzes to achieve the Master Composter Training Certificate.

Additionally, the Department of Waste Resources offers a variety of free environmental education classes focused on waste reduction and sustainability. The instructors provide valuable insights and resources to support participants in their learning.

Should you have any questions regarding the Master Composter Training course, please feel free to contact the Riverside County Department of Waste Resources at (951) 486-3200 or via email at [email protected].
