Riverside County health officials closing Tahquitz High School vaccine site; opening new location at Alessandro High School gym

Hemet gym site will start providing vaccinations starting Tuesday, April 13

The COVID-19 vaccine site at Tahquitz High School in Hemet is closing at the end of the day on April 9. A replacement site is being located a few miles away within the Alessandro High School gymnasium, across the street from Jacob Wiens Elementary School, 935 E. Campus Way, Hemet, 92543.

The new location will be opened for up to four weeks so those who received their first dose at the Tahquitz site will be able to receive their second dose at the Alessandro site. Health officials will soon be contacting those needing a second dose to make an appointment.

“We wanted to thank Hemet Unified School District and its staff for providing the Tahquitz site, and we appreciate being able to use another district location to complete the second doses,” said Kim Saruwatari, director of Public Health for Riverside County.

Riverside County Supervisor Chuck Washington's district includes Hemet, and he has made providing vaccinations to that community a priority during the vaccine rollout.
"It's important that we have a convenient and consistent vaccination site in Hemet, and I'm so appreciative that the School District and Public Health found a way to continue serving the community in this way," Washington said.

More than 1.1 million doses have been administered to Riverside County residents through the county-operated sites and clinics run by community partners.
Individuals 16 and older can be vaccinated, although those who are 16 and 17 years old must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian and receive the Pfizer vaccine. To be eligible, the individuals must work, live or attend school in Riverside County.
