Riverside County Hires Engineering Firm for North Shore Salton Sea Revitalization Project

RIVERSIDE – Riverside County hired an engineering company to prepare the engineering and final design of a Salton Sea revitalization project in the community of North Shore, the first major project for the Riverside County northern portion of the Salton Sea.
The Riverside County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday voted 5-0 to approve an agreement with Dudek for the engineering of the North Lake Pilot Demonstration Project. Dudek was selected following the county’s Request for Proposal (RFP) process.
With this contract in place, Supervisor V. Manuel Perez, in coordination with the Salton Sea Authority and the California Department of Water Resources, looks forward to scheduling the next public outreach meeting on the project for fall 2022.
“This action is an important step forward for the North Lake project that gets us closer to going out to bid for construction and eventually breaking ground on a major project for the Salton Sea and community of North Shore,” said Supervisor Perez. “I want to acknowledge and thank Secretary Wade Crowfoot of the California Natural Resources Agency and Governor Newsom for really stepping in with this investment. I don’t think we have ever seen anything like this ever before. We look forward to meeting soon in the fall with local residents and all who are interested and following the Salton Sea to provide an update on the plans for this future project.”
The North Lake project is a joint project of Riverside County and the Salton Sea Authority that will create a deep water reservoir, offset from the Salton Sea by berms, on approximately 156 acres. This reservoir will provide habitat for species, control dust, and create a recreational lake for the public near the community of North Shore. The project is being implemented by Riverside County on behalf of the grantee, the Salton Sea Authority, with $19.25 million in state funding from the California Department of Water Resources.
