Court approves final settlement in ACLU lawsuit

The settlement agreement between the Riverside County Probation Department and the American Civil Liberties Union has been approved by the Court. The suit pertained to a youth diversion program known as the Youth Accountability Teams (YAT). Parents, schools, resource officers and local law enforcement referred youth exhibiting at-risk behavior to YAT. Moving forward, the Probation Department will change how youth are referred to YAT, as well as provide an investment of nearly $8 million to community-based organizations that help at-risk youth.
