New Director of Human Resources Appointed for Riverside County

The Riverside County Board of Supervisors appointed Tami Douglas-Schatz as the new director of human resources. With a career spanning more than 15 years as the human resources director for San Luis Obispo County, Douglas-Schatz has demonstrated exceptional leadership and dedication, making her the ideal candidate to oversee the full scope of HR functions including recruitment, employee relations and risk management for the largest employer in the County.

Prior to her time in the central coast, Douglas-Schatz climbed the ranks in Riverside County’s Human Resources Department, holding various key positions that contributed to her comprehensive expertise. As director of human resources for San Luis Obispo County, she developed valuable experience in leading recruitment efforts, selection processes, classification determination, workers’ safety and compensation, benefits, organizational development, HR Information Systems, and labor relations.

"Tami's extensive experience in human resources, including in our own county, along with her proven leadership skills, positions her as an invaluable asset to our team," remarked Board Chair Chuck Washington, Third District. "Her commitment to the growth and welfare of our workforce aligns perfectly with our mission to foster a positive and supportive work environment."

Over the years, Douglas-Schatz has played a pivotal role in HR-related initiatives by actively participating in regional and state committees, developing policies, shaping work standards, and implementing programs. Her wealth of experience will enhance the County's strategic human resources initiatives.

A graduate of the University of New Mexico with a bachelor’s degree in psychology, Douglas-Schatz furthered her education by earning a master's degree in industrial-organizational psychology from California State University, San Bernardino. Her education equipped her with the knowledge and skills needed to navigate the multifaceted landscape of human resources.

In her new capacity, Douglas-Schatz will lead Riverside County's Human Resources Department comprised of 350 employees, and will orchestrate the department’s efforts efficiently serving and partnering with the County’s 40+ departments and 22,000 employees. This appointment follows the vacancy left by the previous Director of Human Resources, Mike Bowers, who recently joined San Bernardino County.
