NEWS RELEASE

PALM DESERT – Riverside County Supervisor V. Manuel Perez and Inland Empire Community Foundation President and CEO R. Michelle Decker are looking to inspire individuals and the community to take action to improve air quality and the environment on California Clean Air Day, which is October 5.

Supervisor Perez and Michelle Decker have been selected as this year’s co-chairs for California Clean Air Day for the Inland Empire region. They are leading the Inland Empire Working Group, a committee helping to highlight local activities and form partnerships with the business community, municipalities, school districts, colleges to expand the reach of the upcoming statewide day of action.

Community members can participate in Clean Air Day by attending local events and taking the Clean Air Pledge, which shows a variety of measures that anyone can take to improve the environment. Local events are posted at www.cleanairday.org/events and more events will be posted as Clean Air Day approaches. The Clean Air Day Pledge is located at www.cleanairday.org/pledge.

“Everyone deserves to breathe clean air, and we can take steps to make that possible – both collectively and as individuals,” said Michelle Decker. “Let’s use October 5th as a day to catalyze action in the IE and develop habits that will lead to real changes in our air quality.”

“I am happy to co-chair, alongside Inland Empire Community Foundation President and CEO Michelle Decker, the Inland Empire Working Group for California Clean Air Day,” said Supervisor Perez. “We want to make the Inland Empire region number one in participation. There will be many events and educational opportunities throughout Riverside and San Bernardino counties. These events, as well as the Clean Air Day Web site, show how everyone can take action to improve air quality and the environment.”

The Inland Empire Working Group for California Clean Air Day will hold its next meeting at 2 p.m. Wednesday, September 21 via Zoom. Supervisor Perez and Michelle Decker invite anyone wishing to get involved in this working group to join the meeting (meeting link).

This year will be the fifth annual California Clean Air Day. The California Clean Air Day is an effort of the Coalition for Clean Air, an organization founded in 1971 that works towards the goal of clean air throughout California.
